A familiar conversation
You’re Not the Only One
It’s a conversation we have often at Sol Clinic: patients who have had Botulinum Toxin Type A (the standard anti-wrinkle treatment) for years, sometimes with excellent results early on, who now find the effect fading faster — or not appearing at all. This isn’t about the wrong practitioner or the wrong technique. It’s a recognised clinical phenomenon, known as secondary non-response, and it’s more common than most people realise.
The clinical picture
Botox Type A vs Type B: What’s the Difference?
Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) is the most widely used anti-wrinkle treatment, and the one most people mean when they say ‘Botox’. With repeated treatment over months or years, a small proportion of patients develop reduced response to BTX-A — the effect becomes shorter, weaker, or stops appearing altogether, sometimes linked to the body building neutralising antibodies against it. Botulinum Toxin Type B (BTX-B) is a different serotype of the same toxin family, used in clinical practice as an alternative for patients in this situation. Clinical studies have shown BTX-B to be an effective and safe option for patients who no longer respond well to BTX-A, provided the dose is carefully individualised to the patient. Whether BTX-B — or an adjusted BTX-A protocol — is the right path for you depends on a proper clinical assessment, which is exactly what a consultation at Sol Clinic provides.
Our approach
